Is there a risk when you get a hair weave for black people?

i am 14 and i want a weave do they damage your real hair at all?

It depends on the condition of your natural hair when you get the weave and what type of method used to put the weave in.

If you hair is already in "bad" condition (dry, split ends, thinning, excessive shedding..and so on) getting a weave may not be the smartest idea. You should try to get your hair in the best condition possible before attempting to get a weave such as cutting your hair even to get rid of split ends, deep conditioning and moisturizing prior to getting the weave.

There are different ways to apply the weave, the most common being bonding (with glue) and a sew-in (hair sewn in on top of corn-rowed hair). Weave done with bonding is essentially worse than with the sew-in method because the weft hair is actually glued directly on the scalp or hair depending on the stylist. Sew-in is the better of the two, but if you decide to keep it in for a long period of time, you may not have the opportunity to wash it and if you do, you may develop mold or fungus in you hair for lack of thorough drying.

At age 14, I think you should exhaust all other options for you hair besides getting a weave. 9 times out of 10, it's going to look 'cheap' and 'fake' anyway (we all don't have Beyonce' money). Try getting a new cut or hairstyle. Add some color!! There are many more resources to have cute hair than weaves. (and weaves aren't that cute anyway. Since when have you seen a black person with shiny, black hair down her back?? Really!!)

I think 14 is a little too young for weave. But I wear it and I love it. I am 35 and just started wearing weave because the style lasts longer than my natural hair. So far it hasnt damaged my hair Report It

yes, there can be damage. depending on your hair's strenght, a weave can damage your hair, if it is already weak or fine. Make sure you let a professional look at your hair and they can advise you on what is best for your hair type and condition.

Another thing you risk is having people point at you and say "Hey, she has a weave!"

dont use the bonding glue. will cause severe hair breakage, have it sewn it. Your so young. You should not wear a weave. Try growing your hairby using Mane 'N Tail products.

My opinion is that weaves aren't healthy for ANYONE of color, whether your hair is "healthy" or not...for the simply fact that if you wear the glue or sew-in long enough, sure, you'll hair will be long BUT it'll also be VERY THIN and BRITTLE. Black curly, kinky, wavy, nappy hair needs OXYGEN to grow and be healthy...so my advice to you is to appreciate your natural hair and learn to love it. Treat it with respect and it will grow longer than you could have ever imagined!

Good Luck Sista !

It all depends. Using glue would not be my first coice at all. It rips out hair. i lost alot of my hair using hair glue. Best thing for you to do is get it sewed in. It may cost a little more but its worth it and it last longer than glued tracks. Also you better make sure the person that does knoes wat there doing.
