Why don't you fix your hair instead of covering it up?

The best thing for you to do is to get your hair cut in a nice style that requires little straightening, curling, etc to minimize more damage until you've nursed your hair back to health. Getting weave will cause ADDITIONAL damage.

Here is a link from wikipedia on hair weaves (they have everything)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hair_weave

It does have prices listed and different techniques (which would be far too much to repost here).

Also, I would be very careful about getting a weave. If your hair is badly damaged, the weaves may do more harm than good. I say this because if you have it glued, it could (and more than likely will) damage your scalp. Even having it sewn in will damage your hair because of the weight of the hair.

If you doubt what I'm saying, look at the hairlines of persons around you who have weaves (receeding, breaking-off). Then decide what is right for you (perhaps a wig??) and most importantly concentrate on restoring your hair to a healthy state (I would recommend wrapping your hair and just dealing with the ponytail while you wait for it to grow).

Good luck.

The last thing you would want to do is get a weave while your hair is damaged. The weave will strip your hair of nutrients and damage it more. You should get your hair trimmed a little at a time, once every two weeks get a deep conditioner, and once a month a hot oil. A wrap or a roller set would be the best thing for you hair. Try to avoid heat as much as possible.

However the information that you ask for varies. You have human hair which done professionally will cost you 150 or better. Then there is the yakky hair and synthetic these two are cheaper but will cause more damage than the human hair.

I'm not sure what everyone else's problem is with weaves, but weaves are a good thing and a life saver to women in your same dilema. A weave is the perfect option for someone who's hair is damaged for whatever reason. With a weave you can allow your hair time to breath and repair itself without the stress of hair straightners, relaxers, other chemicals, etc.

Here is what you do:

Properly shampoo your hair with a moisturizing shampoo, then use a good deep conditioner like a cholesterol treatment or something (you can find at walmart). When using this conditioner, you want to saturate your hair, use a plastic cap and sit under the dryer for 10-15 minutes. Then rinse the conditioner out and to avoid using any more heat allow it to air dry if you like. Then you can choose from a few weaving options that will not only look great, but will allow your hair to breath as well.

One option is the sewn in weave. With a sewn in weave, you are cornrowing your hair down and sewing wefted extensions onto the cornrows until the whole head is covered. Some like to leave some of their own hair out, but you don't have to if you know how to close it very well.

Another option is interlock or tree braids. With this method, your hair is being cornrowed into a beehive, while at the same time adding bulk human hair and allowing the loose hair to fall down out of the braid, so in essence only an inch or two of the human hair is being added into the cornrow and the rest is left out for the weave job. In the end, it looks wonderful and your hair is not being stressed by chemicals or heat.

Both styles will last you more than a month if you choose, and your hair will repair itself and even grow with proper maintenance while the weave is in. You want to be sure to moisturize your scalp during the time you have the weave in and use braid shampoo to cleanse regularly.

I hope this information helps. We share information like this on our hair talk message board, you should join!

GIRL! if you are in nyc I got the stylist for you. Her name is Soneitha she is in brooklyn ( mind you I go all da way from the bronx just to get my hair done with her) She charges only $120 for a full weave, she does various methods just let her know how you wanna style your hair and she got you! i was never crazy about hair weaves until I went to her she is the best. and if you only want to get tracks she charges $10 per track. Also you should buy real hair , not the hair from the beauty supply cause it tangles like crazy. Plus if you buy real hair you can re-use it which saves you money. The hair I buy is from this company called Lexys hair she is also in brooklyn her website is www.lexyshair.com. You should buy the spanish wavy texture because you can have that wet n wavy look when u wet it and also straighten and it looks hot! it cost $20 per oz and for a full weave you wud need 8oz. Also u wud wear the weave for 2 n a half months then u go to the Soneitha she takes the braids out and relaxes only the front part of youe hair cuz with a full weave you dont need to relax your entire hair and you just have to pay $120 again when u want to remove it and re-install in about 2-3 months.
